Memorial Built With Compassion

However comforting memorials can be, they often bring up painful memories for the family members left behind. It is our hope that the Bourne Student Memorial dedication ceremony planned for Sunday, May 5, provides parents, siblings, other family members and friends of the 28 students named in the memorial the opportunity to come together and support one another. The depth of pain associated with losing a child is something only those who have experienced it can truly understand. Yet, the gesture made by the voters who approved funding for the memorial shows the level of compassion to which neighbors will rise to support one another.

The Bourne Student Memorial is beautiful, both in its appearance and in its meaning. Built with care and compassion by students from the Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, the memorial, near the high school and middle school, offers parents, students, and community members a quiet place to remember and reflect on the precious lives of children taken too soon.
We encourage residents to attend what is sure to be a touching and heart-felt ceremony. And we hope that the families and friends of the 28 students included in the memorial take comfort in knowing that the Bourne community embraces them.
